Trick or treat! 2012-11-04 04:36:33
To support the spirit of turn from the darkest period of the year towards the light, all players got extra creepy Halloween login greetings this year. Artists for Easter greetings as well as any other holidays we support (or should support) should contact Fir.

In response to the challenge of hauling around massive amounts of candy, the traditional Halloween trick-or-treat race was this year supported by new treat bags provided by Donal ye Guiser. The bags successfully kept treaters' candies organized while they roamed the realm, fiercely looking for targets for their sweet extortion.

Bytre reports that Pitfall led the candy scramble, trick or treating with 498 separate people on Ancient Anguish! Mbebe was second, at 454 candies (reportedly breaking his previous record of about 250), and Nym third, racking up 396 pieces of tooth rotting goodness.

Our brave reporters were confident that raking up 321 candies would surely be enough to get a medal this year, but no! The competition was truly fierce. Last year's winner Bazlephrat had 301 trick-or-treats, in comparison. The Gemynd Post congratulates all the winners!

Duender housing area opened 2012-10-13 12:56:42
Real Estate News:

In a completely unforeseen move, the Duender housing area has been opened to outsider buyers. Rumour has it that Honest Andy negotiated long, hard and deviously to get the elvish village to handle the real estate sales.

Currently Lilac Cottage in Duender is open for bids as the first house to be sold on the area.

Recently, Da Pigsti in Dalair was sold to Calvin for 13 million coins. Andy proudly notes that he has so far made 23.5 million coins in commissions from selling property, so Duender should prove to be a lucrative extension of the business.

His earlier deal to broker for the Gemynd housing area, which was established in winter of 627, has already sold two houses. The second of them, Sunset Mansion, sold for a mind-blowing 55 million and was Andy's largest sale to date. We were lurking on Budha's meticulously-tended lawn to see if we could catch an interview, but were shooed off by a neighbouring house's butler.

Poet board: But I remember 2012-09-12 13:10:12
But I remember, by Tiaowu

He never calls, rarely writes,
We couldn't talk without a fight.
He never wished me Happy Birthday,
Until it was a day too late.
But I remember poetry,
Coffee shops, storytelling, and when he said,
"You're my best friend, Daughter,
"I love you, Daughter."

He doesn't cuddle after sex,
Nor does he want a relationship.
Years go by, he calls twice.
He told me once that I was ice.
But I remember mountain tops,
Tangled snuggles, analysis, and when he said,
"You're my best friend, Darling,
"I love you, Darling."

She doesn't think too well of me,
It's only darkness she can see,
I strive to please, but just offend,
Now there's nothing left to mend.
But I remember silly songs,
Laughing, giggling, and when she said,
"You're my best friend, Honey.
"I love you, Honey."

Faces flash before my eyes,
I see their anger and their strife.
I want to scream, "Go away!
"Or I can't stay another day!"
But I remember smirking lips,
How they look at sunrises, and when they say,
"Thank you for being here, Lady,
"I like you, Lady."

Mass suicidality shocks party-goers: punch blamed 2012-09-12 12:57:55
Active citizen reporter Sifon noted on the Canticle submission board that Tinn and Flog's recent wedding was spiced up by a mass suicide by Whitehand, whose corpses were piling up on the crossroads.

Our almost-paid newspaper staff reached the frustrated performance artist as he had already regained ten levels. While he was surprised to hear he had made the news, Whitehand commented that the news media never pays attention to the underlying message of the artist, and just on cheap entertainment aspects such as the shock value of the piece. We successfully failed to get this critique and proceed to note that he has quite enjoyed his trait reset gained as a side effect.

The town health inspectors note that part of Whitehand's corpse pile was apparently sold to the butcher, whose Soylent Dwarf Sausages were then brought back to be enjoyed by all.

Today, another less active reporter citizen, Expresso (Blank, Downforth, Quantum, Stage, Samhain, Fizzler), has performed a more suicidal mass suicide in all quiet. When we summoned a group of necromancers to interview him, he noted he has important things to do in another realm, but his ghost will lurk in the shadows until he reincarnates in two years. Fir has ghostwritten his postmortem suicide note on the Adventurer board.

The mass media wishes him good luck and still maintains that the Neville mage of freezing is seriously not that far to walk to.

The Gemynd Post would also like to credit Sugerdeadly for the punchline of this article.

EuropAA meet collects collectors, spreads RPS 2012-09-05 13:20:27
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Ancient Anguish some more, a group of players on the other side of the Atlantic organized another face-to-face meet in some strange corner of Germany on the last weekend of August. Oark was the perfect host, having invited us to his own house - 'us' being Wong, Kamikaze, Calandryll and Fir.

The weekend was packed with program, with barely enough time to sleep in between.
On Friday we visited a nearby lake, where we discovered scuba divers and mysterious geese that might have been huge ducks. (They will probably show up on the shores of Infidian sooner or later.) After it started to rain, we retreated to a beergarden to sample the local brews. Back at the house, Oark fed us pretzels (my first!), a carefully collected sample of more beer and other alcoholic substances, such as Federweisser and Radler; as the single non-drinker in the group I was entirely incapable of memorizing the full list (I got my own drink bar instead).

On Saturday, just before Wong arrived, we visited a nearby castle, Nideggen. It had nice open areas high up with incredible views. While I used the opportunity to execute some very, very careful hyposensibilization of my fear of heights up in the castle tower, Kamikaze braved the gusty wind to catch a panorama shot from the wall, and mysteriously failed to die gorily in a long fall down to the rocks. After a quick round in ye olde castle towne, we headed back to meet a just-arrived Wong.

After some excellent soup that Oark coldly threatened us all into eating, we headed to the Aachen cathedral, which our professional tour guide explained was the first thing to get UNESCO protection in Germany. We groped for the devil's finger in a door knocker's mouth, saw what a wolf looks like after its soul gets pulled out through its chest, and were sadly unable to make off with the ancient throne of German kings. But we managed to cryptanalyze one obfuscated wall plaque that probably also described the location of ancient treasure. We did not read that far, though, because we already found out where the treasure chamber was from the newer wall signs.

In the evenings, Calandryll and I caused destruction and mayhem with white and black stones (1 win, 1 loss, several stones of handicap). Once Kamikaze and Wong had sampled enough of Oark's brews, I managed to infect them with RPS; now they will never be the same again. In return, I got suckered into playing Texas Hold'em, but it was worth losing all my money.

We also organized some completely bonkers group photos that will take a few rounds of post-processing to make sense.

The remaining half of the story I must leave out due to having been sworn to secrecy. You're just going to have to join us next year when we celebrate the first time AA turns 21 and legally becomes a full-grown adult. Or the year after that, because 22 definitely has to be celebrated, because it has two 2s, or 23 because it is prime! The preliminary date is the second-last weekend of August. (I just set that right now, come RPS me for it if you dare.)
